A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about what it means to Begin Again—to let go of perfection and start fresh with God. Since then, that message has stayed on my heart. Because beginning again is not just about starting, it’s also about continuing.
Earlier this year, I shared a message about obedience called The Step You’re Avoiding Might Be Delaying Your Next Assignment. After reflecting on Begin Again, I found myself thinking back to that post. The two are deeply connected. Beginning again opens the door, but what we do next, how we walk it out, reveals whether we truly trust God.
Sometimes we want to start again and see everything fall into place right away. But I have come to understand that God often invites us to move slowly, intentionally, one step at a time.
No Need to Rush
I often consider how God created the world. I truly believe that if God wanted to, He could have spoken one word and finished it all in a single day. But He didn’t.
I believe He created day by day, with order and connection, for our benefit. Each day had a purpose.
We don’t have to rush to prove that we’re growing. Sometimes the greatest act of faith is allowing God to shape us in stages.
As I think about this, I’m reminded of Saul’s story in Acts 9.
Obedience Isn’t Always Grand
In Acts 9, Saul, who would later become Paul, has a life-changing encounter with Jesus. He’s stopped in his tracks on the road to Damascus. The same man who had been persecuting Christians is blinded by a heavenly light and hears the voice of Jesus.
"As he traveled and was nearing Damascus, a light from heaven suddenly flashed around him. Falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? ” “Who are You, Lord? ” he said. “I am Jesus, the One you are persecuting,” He replied. “But get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” -Acts 9:3-6
That moment teaches me that faith requires movement. Jesus was clear. Saul didn’t need another sign or more confirmation. He needed to follow through.
Jesus doesn’t give him a detailed plan. He gives him a simple instruction:
Get up and go into the city.
Only after Saul obeys that first step will he be told what comes next.
Obedience doesn’t always look impressive. Sometimes it feels quiet, slow, or uncomfortable. But it is in those moments that God is building something lasting within us.
Each act of obedience carries us one step closer to what He has already prepared.
Begin Again, and Keep Going
When I wrote Begin Again, it reminded me that grace meets us when we start fresh. This time, the reminder is to keep walking, even when the steps feel small or slow.
Each act of obedience builds on the last. You don’t have to rush. You don’t have to see the full picture. Just take the next step. God is faithful, and He is with you and for you.
Reflect
Is there a step you’ve been putting off that God already told you to do?
Take that step this weekend.
Your next step may be waiting on your willingness to move.
